Debbie Meyer’s Green Bags

I was recently over at my mother-in-law’s house for brunch, when I noticed that she had a couple of the green bags that I’ve seen advertised EVERYWHERE. I have to admidt; I thought that these bags were a complete crock. After talking to her about them, she gave me 2 of hers to try. She said that she “swears by them”.

So, feeling quite skeptical about these “green bags”, I went home and put a bunch of celery in one of them and a container of grape tomatoes in another. I have to tell you, these things really do work. 2 weeks later, my celery looks like I just bought it from the grocery store today. The tomatoes were eaten right away, so I can’t be sure that it worked for those. The great thing about these bags are that you can rinse them out and reuse them several times before they loose their “powers”. (the box claims 8-10, but I can’t attest to that, as I’ve only re-used them a couple of times.)

Actually, they don’t really have “powers”. They work by absorbing and removing the ethylene gas, which apparently causes your product to break down rather quickly. It does seem pretty magical though when I can use my product for more than a week before having to throw it away because it’s growing fur.

You’d better believe that last week I went out to my local supermarket and bought a box. They come 20 bags in a box (10 large and 10 medium) and only cost me $10. The investment is well worth it, especially considering the price of fresh produce!

Have you tried these bags? What are your thoughts?
