What’s Your Carbon Footprint?
- December 4th, 2008
With all of the talk of global warming, we all need to be aware of how we are impacting the environment. I’ve heard a little about carbon footprinting lately and wanted to find out more about it; what I found was very interesting and I wanted to share this information with you.
What is a Carbon Footprint?
According to Wikipedia.com, “The carbon footprint is a measure of the exclusive global amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases emitted by a human activity or accumulated over the full life cycle of a product or service”
How do I calculate my Carbon Footprint?
There’s a great video that explains how to calculate your carbon footprint, which I found on Howcast.
How can I reduce my carbon footprint?
- Identify and reduce the amount of your energy consumption overall, but especially those associated with CO2-emissions.
- If possible, switch to another electricity company that purchases from renewable sources (from wind turbines, solar panels, hydro electrical plants or from nuclear power plants).
- Carpool to and from work or school; take public transportation whenever possible.
- Think carbon offsetting; invest in projects that aim at the reducing CO2 emissions, such as tree planting.
